FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A MIDWIFE AND A DOULA?
A Certified Nurse Midwife has a master's degree or higher in nurse midwifery. They are licensed as a nurse practitioner in the state of Kansas. A Nurse Midwife is trained to attend births and be ready for emergency situations. They can prescribe medications and diagnose medical conditions.

A doula is a trained in providing pregnancy support, labor support, and postpartum support. They are available to provide support, educate and be with you during this special time in your life. They can not prescribe medications or diagnose medical conditions
DO I NEED A BIRTH PLAN?
A birth plan is not necessary, but nice to have. If you don't write one out that is OK. Discussing with your family, support person, and midwife what you want your birth to look like is very helpful. If we know what you want in your birth we can try our best to help accomplish that plan. Having it written down helps u remember what you want.
DO YOU PROVIDE HOSPITAL BIRTH?
Right now, no we do not. We provide your prenatal care, home birth services and postpartum care. If hospital birth is what you want we can plan ahead and transfer you to another provider for that service around 36-37 weeks, then you can return to us for postpartum care.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
We do accept Aetna insurance and out of network Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance. We are working on becoming credentialed with all major insurance providers.
IS WATER BIRTH AN OPTION?
Yes. We have a pool and pump available for use. Each patient is required to purchase the liner for their birth.
DO YOU ONLY TAKE CARE OF PREGNANCY AND BIRTH?
The great news is Certified Nurse Midwives can provide women's health care as well! We can see patients for primary care, acute gynecological care, preventative care (ie: pap smears, breast exam, well woman exams), birth control, menopausal symptoms, and some infertility treatments. We offer all birth control options (except sterilization) and hormone replacement therapy for menopausal symptoms.
